Have you been allotted Multiple DINs erroneously by MCA, Please take action on additional DINs for surrendering them immediately to MCA and retain the DIN issued first.

 ALLOTMENT OF MULTIPLE DINS TO AN INDIVIDUAL BY MCA WOULD BECOME AN ISSUE TO COMPANIES WHILE USE OF DIN 

INDIVIDUALS SHOULD TAKE ACTION TO SURRENDER THE ADDITIONAL DINS TO MCA AND IS ENABLED TO KEEP THE OLDEST DIN OF THE ALLOTTED DINS.

Any Individual desirous of acting as director of an Indian company should posses a DIN number. Certain process to be followed by Individuals to get a DIN allotted from central government. DIN number is to be used everywhere by the Individual if acting in the position of director of the company. MCA introduced the DIN number system in the year 2006. 

All individuals acting as directors are mandatorily to possess a DIN number to continue as Director as per MCA. MCA also instructed that one Individual to have only one DIN number for his life. 

DINs are issued by collecting the Individuals personal information along with PAN. One PAN and One DIN for persons is the rule. Indian Nationals are required to provide PAN mandatorily and should verify the information in the process of DIN Allotment. Foreign Nationals can provide Passport copy to get their DIN number allotted. Despite of the rule one pan one din in force, few individuals are being allotted with multiple din numbers erroneously. 

Possession of Multiple DIN numbers by an Individual is a contravention of law. To assure that Individual is in compliance of law all the additional dins erroneously allotted to him have to be surrendered to MCA. 


Surrender process has been specified by MCA by a dedicated Form (i.e. DIR-5) and Filing of this particular form shall make the surrender of additional DINs possible.

Every Year Individual DIN holders are required to do KYC of their ID and Address particulars through specified forms ( DIR-3 KYC or DIR-3 KYC Web) . During the process of getting the KYC done, one can trace out that if an Individual is allotted Multiple DINS by MCA. (PAN card Number will play a key role here and MCA systems validates the Data with PAN and informs about the Multiple DINs on same PAN).  

Once Individual is aware of the Multiple DINs, he immediately should take measures to get rid of additional dins and retain only one oldest DIN for his usage. 

DIR-5 form to be filed with MCA to surrender all the additional DINs stating the proper reasons and proofs substantiating the erroneous allotment of DINs. First and Oldest DIN allotted shall be retained and all later allotted DIN numbers to be mentioned in the form  DIR-5 for cancellation of DINs on the name of the  Individual. 

MCA verifies the information provided and if satisfies with the reason stated shall give relief to the Individual by cancellation of additional DINs. With the relief provided by MCA DIN holder can continue with the oldest DIN for all his Director related assignments. 

Individual shall soon inform all the companies about the DIN number he possess now where ever he is acting as Director for updating in Companies Directors DIN list.
